On Saturday 18 April we will once again open our doors for the eighth edition of ‘Cocktales’!
Cocktales is an art event and stage. A small, inclusive cultural festival where artists and visitors can be seen. We are a presentation space with room for experiment and research. The artists are emerging, diverse queer talents from the region and beyond.

You might have to squint a few times with the world being on fire and all, but yes, It's spring again! Time to frolic in those jolly gay flowers. That's a reason to celebrate! During this edition we look at identity: Gendered identity, reclaimed identity, longing for belonging. We have a sneak peak of a new performance by Joleyn Veenhuysen, a spoken word performance and visual art by Shizen Tsie-Chun-Sioe and visual art by Rik Grevink. And don’t forget the cocktails! Will we ever? We end the evening with a drink and a dance and the music of DJ Space! Boy!

Joleyn Veenhuysen (performance)
Joleyn is a theatre maker from Eindhoven. In the theatre production ‘Joleyn, work in progress’ reflects on what it means to be a trans woman in the current era. “Joleyn, work in progress” is the personal story of a 58-year-old trans woman in which she offers a glimpse into what her life has been like over the past three years.
You encounter a lot: What is the impact of a transition process later in life? What do you face on a daily basis? What resistance do you experience in society and in your environment? But also self-acceptance and the medical/biological process.
In addition to negative experiences such as misgendering, waiting lists in healthcare and societal misunderstanding, she primarily wants to show the personal side of this process. Choosing yourself brings so much. Incidentally, this does not automatically mean that life becomes easier, but it certainly makes it more interesting.
During the performance at Cocktales, we will show a teaser of the play that premieres in May at the Freedom Theatre Eindhoven.

Rik Grevink (visual art) 
‘De IJzeren Man’ (the Iron Man) explores masculinity in small communities, in places where being a man manifests itself and where contact with one’s own masculinity is a requirement. Rik Grevink wants to spark conversations about masculinity rather than define it. What started as ‘questions on beer mats’ grew into conversations in pubs about meaning, family roles, letting go of expectations, and the question of what it means to be a ‘real man’.

Can we see men again as the people they are? ‘De IJzeren Man’ is a quest for the complexity, multifaceted nature, and contradiction of masculinity. Although the work stems from village culture, it is intended for anyone who comes across it.

Shizen Tsie-Chun-Sioe (visual art/performance)
“I am a piece of archive that cannot be erased.”
This phrase fuels Shizen’s work, a visual and emotional archive of her life. Through self-portraits based on crying selfies, poetry, ceramics, and colour experimentation, she documents her grief, joy, and healing. Each piece is a mark in time, a reflection of how much and how deeply she felt.
Her practice explores the intersection of her personal history, blending emotional expression with quiet protest. It speaks to a history of cultural erasure, to what was lost through colonialism, and what she’s reclaiming through creation. Her work becomes a way to grieve what could have been, while honoring her ancestors' survival and resilience.
Poems, diary entries, and found phrases from loved ones become tangible, embedded into ceramics. She feels a necessity to have her literal handprint within the clay. These vessels invite others to reflect, feel, and connect. For Shizen, this shared vulnerability builds fleeting yet powerful moments of community.
Ultimately, her work is a personal and collective resting space, a diary of resistance, care, and connection. A place where sorrow and hope can coexist. 
A quiet invitation to belong.

Op zaterdag 18 april openen we opnieuw onze deuren voor de achtste editie van 'Cocktales'!
Cocktales is een kunstevenement en podium. Een klein, inclusief cultureel festival waar kunstenaars en bezoekers te zien zijn. We zijn een presentatieruimte met ruimte voor experiment en onderzoek. De kunstenaars zijn opkomende, diverse queer talenten uit de regio en daarbuiten.

‍

Misschien moeten we even met onze ogen knipperen nu de wereld in brand staat, maar ja, inderdaad, het is weer lente! Tijd om te genieten van die vrolijke bloem potten. Dat is reden voor feest! Tijdens deze editie kijken we naar identiteit: Genderidentiteit, herwonnen identiteit, verlangen erbij te horen. We geven een voorproefje van een nieuwe performance van Joleyn Veenhuysen, een spoken word performance en visuele kunst van Shizen Tsie-Chun-Sioe en Rik Grevink. En vergeet de cocktails niet! Zullen we die ooit vergeten? We sluiten de avond af met een drankje en een dansje op de muziek van DJ Space! Boy!

Joleyn Veenhuysen (performance)
Joleyn is een Eindhovense theatermaker. In de theaterproductie “Joleyn, work in progress” wordt zichtbaarheid gegeven aan wat het betekent om transvrouw te zijn in het huidige tijdsgewricht. “Joleyn, work in progress” is het persoonlijke verhaal van een 58-jarige transvrouw waarin zij een kijkje geeft in haar leven van de afgelopen drie jaar.
Je komt een hoop tegen: Wat is de impact van een transitieproces op latere leeftijd? Waarmee wordt je dagelijks geconfronteerd? Welke weerstanden ervaar je in de maatschappij en in je omgeving? Maar ook zelfacceptatie en het medisch/ biologische proces.
Naast negatieve ervaringen als misgendering, wachtlijsten in de zorg en maatschappelijk onbegrip wil ze vooral de persoonlijke kant laten zien van dit proces. Het kiezen voor jezelf levert zoveel op. Het betekent trouwens niet automatisch dat het leven hiermee makkelijker wordt, maar wel interessanter. 
In de performance tijdens Cocktales laten we een teaser zien van de voorstelling die in mei in première gaat in het Freedom Theatre Eindhoven.

‘De IJzeren Man’ verkent mannelijkheid in kleine gemeenschappen, op plekken waar het man-zijn zich manifesteert en waar contact met je eigen mannelijkheid een vereiste is. Rik Grevink wil gesprekken over mannelijkheid aanwakkeren in plaats van het te definiëren. Wat begon als vragen op bierviltjes groeide uit tot gesprekken in kroegen over zingeving, familierollen, het loslaten van verwachtingen en de vraag wat het betekent om een ‘echte vent’ te zijn.
Kunnen we mannen weer zien als de mensen die ze zijn? ‘De IJzeren Man’ is een zoektocht naar de complexiteit, veelzijdigheid en tegenstrijdigheid van mannelijkheid. Hoewel het werk voortkomt uit de dorpscultuur, is het bedoeld voor iedereen die hiermee te maken heeft.

Shizen Tsie-Chun-Sioe (beeldende kunst/performance)
“Ik ben een archiefstuk dat niet gewist kan worden.”
Deze zin vormt de drijfveer achter Shizen’s werk: Een visueel en emotioneel archief van haar leven. Middels zelfportretten gebaseerd op huilende selfies, poëzie, keramiek en kleurexperimenten documenteert ze haar verdriet, vreugde en genezing. Elk stuk is een momentopname, een weerspiegeling van hoeveel en hoe diep ze voelde.Haar werk onderzoekt het kruispunt tussen haar persoonlijke geschiedenis en combineert emotionele expressie met stil protest. Het verwijst naar een geschiedenis van culturele uitwissing, wat verloren is gegaan door kolonialisme en wat ze terugwint door te creëren. Haar werk is een manier van rouwen om wat had kunnen zijn, terwijl ze tegelijkertijd de overlevingsdrang en veerkracht van haar voorouders eert. Gedichten, dagboekfragmenten en gevonden zinnen van geliefden worden tastbaar in keramiek. Ze voelt de noodzaak om haar letterlijke handafdruk in de klei te drukken. Deze objecten nodigen uit om te reflecteren, te voelen en te verbinden. Voor Shizen maakt deze gedeelde kwetsbaarheid vluchtige maar krachtige momenten van gemeenschap. Haar werk is een persoonlijke en collectieve rustplaats, een dagboek van verzet, zorg en verbinding. Een plek waar verdriet en hoop naast elkaar kunnen bestaan.
Een stille uitnodiging om erbij te horen.

On Saturday 25 October we will once again open our doors for the seventh edition of ‘Cocktales’! Cocktales is an art event and stage. A small, inclusive cultural festival where artists and visitors can be seen. We are a presentation space with room for experiment and research. The artists are emerging, diverse queer talents from the region and beyond.

‍The seventh edition is the third Dutch Design Week edition, which means we once again have an extra long program for you. It has two parts: In the afternoon you can come and see visual work by Izaak Imagery and Sifanie Johanna. We will also have an arts and crafts table! Nothing says ‘queer’ or ‘punk’ like ‘diy’ so bring out your inner designer and make your own buttons and tote bags! Decorate your jacket, crop your top and spark your sparkle!  ‍The performance program will take place in the evening, just like in previous editions. With a performance by Maybe Boozegeoisie and lecture by Izaak Imagery and we can’t forget the cocktails! We will end the evening with a drink and a dance and the records spun by DJ 2dB. DayDayGay shows us the diversity of our community. We are visual art, performance, drag, music and a safe space.

Cocktales is een kunstmanifestatie en een podium. Een klein, inclusief cultureel festival waar artiest en bezoeker gezien mag worden. We zijn een presentatieruimte waarin plek is voor voor experiment en onderzoek. De artiesten zijn opkomende, diverse queer talenten uit de regio en daarbuiten. 

Deze maand hangen wij onze kleurrijke vlaggen uit en tonen wij met trots wie wij werkelijk zijn en de vrijheid die we hierbij voelen. Maar helaas komen vrijheden vaak niet zonder strijd en gaat aan het vinden een zoektocht vooraf. 

Bij deze tweede Pride editie, onderdeel van het programma van Eindhoven Pride Week, tonen wij werk van kunstenaars die middels hun werk het omarmen van hun identiteit tonen. Ze maken diversiteit bespreekbaar middels het beeldende werk.  Met beeldend werk en performances. Uiteraard sluiten we de avond af met een drankje en een dansje.

On Friday 20 June we will once again open our doors for the sixth edition of ‘Cocktales’!

Cocktales is an art event and stage. A small, inclusive cultural festival where artists and visitors can be seen. We are a presentation space with room for experiment and research. The artists are emerging, diverse queer talents from the region and beyond.

‍This month is a time for celebration in the face of oppression. We are born this way, we are here, queer and proud. We are community builders and we stand with our trans siblings. In this second Pride edition, part of the Eindhoven Pride Week festivities, we present work by artists with an activist flair. With visual work and performances and an arts and crafts corner where you can make your own button. Of course, we will have a cocktail special and end the evening with a dance.

Guntra Laivacuma

Guntra Laivacuma is a Latvian conceptual artist based in Eindhoven. Her work explores how emotions are manipulated in the service of consumerism, capitalism, and political control. Drawing on Freud’s concept of the Unconscious Mind- later adapted for marketing by Edward Bernays- she examines how hidden psychological forces shape our desires and values. Using second-hand materials, she recontextualizes everyday objects to expose the unseen forces influencing our choices. Her practice invites critical reflection on the systems that shape modern life.

Eric the Dragking

Eric the Dragking was born in 2021. My dream is to live in a world where people living with HIV are healthy citizens free from stigma. The art of dragtivism gives me the freedom to embrace who I am and to show that I am much stronger than the tiny virus. So join me and dance HIV stigma away! Eric the Dragking holds the title of ‘Mr Poz Artivist 2024’ in Ireland and is the winner of Superball 2023, the biggest drag ball of Europe, with his draghouse ‘Lost Bois’.

Emily & Rik

Emily Janneke (She/They) is a poet and video-artist who uses poetry and art to navigate life as a queer disabled creative, attempting to understand their life and where they fit in a world that isn’t built for them. Her work explores themes of identity, mental illness, queerness and imagination through a combination of visuals and language in order to puzzle together and express what is happening in her brain.
Rik Verhalle (he/him) is a storyteller, tour guide, ex-architect and all round Eindhoven enthusiast. He works at Brainport and has been involved in the Eindhoven queer scene for years, organising the Queer Salons and first Eindhoven Pride for starters. Expect insightful anecdotes and fun stories.

It's spring again! The season of the birds and the birds and the bees and the bees. New bodies claw their way out of the earth. That's a reason to celebrate! During this edition we look at various aspects of physicality. Every body is valuable. With visual art by Qiaochu Guo, performance by J (Eindhoven Ballroom), the erotic animation film 'Melk' by Niek de Leeuw and of course the cocktails! We end the evening with a drink and a dance and the music of DJ Space! Boy!

Qiaochu Guo‍

Qiaochu Guo (they/them) is a visual artist and performer in slow mobility, born in Jingmen, China and living in the Netherlands. Qiaochu’s work has interests in how the established social structure influences body presentation through alienation, abandonment, exhaustion and disease. This leads to playing with the potential autonomous body with hacking, defeating, disrupting and restoring as the strategies. Their work is not limited to a certain medium and wishes to be conveyed in a sticky, thick, blurry, permeating way. 

They have shown works at Metro54,Het Nieuwe Instituut, Kunstlinie Almere, Framer Framed, Temporary Art Center, de Fabriek, Garage Rotterdam and others, and performed at Flam #9, Worm, De Singel and Veem House of Performance.

J

J (she/her)’s work is a reflection of the constant growth she experiences through sorrow and joy, abandonment and discovery, the warmth and coldness of the heart, mind and body. She gets inspiration from discovering new and unexplored loves and losses. The work could be described as self-acceptance or opening a personal light to the world. She uses spoken word,  movement, different materials, colours, paint, clothing or nudity to intensify or clarify the emotions, experiences or messages she want to share with the world. This helps to reveal the unknown and hopefully it can help others to see parts of themselves through her.

Melk - Niek de Leeuw 

‘Melk’ (Milk) is a film about Niek de Leeuw (he/him)’s expectations of his life once he comes out of the closet. Why do so many people focus on the sex between two men? It is a film about relationships, sex and lots of milk. In this loose 2D animation, a young man explores how to deal with the expectations he has about life as a homosexual.

Cocktales is een kunstmanifestatie en een podium. Een klein, inclusief cultureel festival waar artiest en bezoeker gezien mag worden. We zijn een presentatieruimte waarin plek is voor voor experiment en onderzoek. De artiesten zijn opkomende, diverse queer talenten uit de regio en daarbuiten. 

Het is weer lente! Het seizoen van de bloemetjes en de bloemetjes en de bijtjes en de bijtjes.  Nieuwe lichamen wormen zich uit de aarde. Dit vieren wij! Tijdens deze editie kijken we naar diverse aspecten van lichamelijkheid. Ieder lichaam is waardevol. Met beeldende kunst van Qiaochu Guo, performance van J (Eindhoven Ballroom), de erotische animatiefilm ‘Melk’ van Niek de Leeuw en natuurlijk de cocktails! We de avond af met een drankje en een dansje en de muziek van DJ Space! Boy!

Qiaochu Guo

Qiaochu Guo (die/hen/hun) is een beeldend kunstenaar en performer in ‘slow mobility’, geboren in Jingmen, China en woonachtig in Nederland. Qiaochu's werk richt zich op hoe de gevestigde sociale structuur de presentatie van het lichaam beïnvloedt door vervreemding, verlating, uitputting en ziekte. Dit leidt tot het spelen met het potentiële autonome lichaam met hacken, verslaan, verstoren en herstellen als strategieën. Hun werk beperkt zich niet tot een bepaald medium en wil op een plakkerige, dikke, wazige, doordringende manier worden overgebracht.

Diens werk werd getoond bij Metro54, Het Nieuwe Instituut, Kunstlinie Almere, Framer Framed, Temporary Art Center, de Fabriek, Garage Rotterdam en anderen, en hebben opgetreden bij Flam #9, Worm, De Singel en Veem House of Performance.

J (zij/haar) ’s werk is een weerspiegeling van de constante groei die zeervaart door verdriet en vreugde, verlating en ontdekkingen, de warmte en kilte van het hart, geest en lichaam. Inspiratie krijgt ze door het ontdekken van nieuwe en nog onontgonnen liefdes en verlies. Het werk zou te omschrijven zijn als zelfacceptatie of het openen van een persoonlijk licht naar de wereld. Ze gebruikt spoken word, beweging, verschillende materialen, kleuren, verf, kleding of naaktheid om de emoties, ervaringen of berichten die ik met de wereld wil delen te intensiveren of te verduidelijken. Dit helpt met het onbekende te onthullen en hopelijk kan het anderen helpen om delen van zichzelf door haar te zien.’

Melk - Niek de Leeuw 

‘Melk’ is een film over Niek de Leeuw (hij/hem)’s verwachtingen van zijn leven, zodra hij uit de kast zou komen. Waarom richten zoveel mensen zich op de seks tussen twee mannen? 

Het is een film over relaties, seks en veel melk. In deze losse 2D-animatie verkent een jongeman hoe hij om moet gaan met de verwachtingen die hij heeft over het leven als homoseksueel.

Cocktales is een kunstmanifestatie en een podium. Een klein, inclusief cultureel festival waar artiest en bezoeker gezien mag worden. We zijn een presentatieruimte waarin plek is voor voor experiment en onderzoek. De artiesten zijn opkomende, diverse queer talenten uit de regio en daarbuiten. 

Op 19 oktober gaat de Dutch Design Week weer van start! Dit betekent dat er ook dit jaar extra lang genoten kan worden van het programma van Cocktales! Het programma is verdeeld in twee delen: 

In de middag kun je komen kijken naar beeldend werk van Sandro van der Leeuw en Jesse van den Berg. Ook is onze merchandise booth geopend en dit keer kun je ook zelf wat komen maken! Crop je DaydayGay shirt, Versier je jas en maak je eigen button! Je look kan niet extravagant genoeg zijn bij ons. 

In de avond vindt het performance programma plaats, net als bij eerdere edities. Met spoken word van Sandro van der Leeuw, een ambient performance van Ruisvogel en natuurlijk de cocktails! We de avond af met een drankje en een dansje en de muziek van DJ Beftex.

Buiten waait een gure wind, maar binnen is het warm en gezellig. Wij presenteren op deze dag een menagerie van flamboyante artiesten die de hetero-normatieve normen naar hun hand zetten. Ze ‘queeren’ oude media en draaien de verwachtingspatronen om. Met een performance van Simic, beeldende kunst van Yuqi Wang en een screening van ‘Oh Loneliness’, een drag opera video van Lena Meyskens, met introductie. Uiteraard sluiten we de avond af met een drankje en een dansje. 

DayDayGay laat aan elkaar de diversiteit van onze gemeenschap zien. Wij zijn beeldende kunst, performance, drag, muziek en een veilige ontmoetingsplek.

On Saturday 17 February we will once again open our doors for the second edition of ‘Cocktales’!

Cocktales is an art event and stage. A small, inclusive cultural festival where artists and visitors can be seen. We are a presentation space with room for experiment and research. The artists are emerging, diverse queer talents from the region and beyond.

An ice cold wind is blowing outside, but inside it is warm and cosy. On this day we present a menagerie of flamboyant artists who bend hetero-normative norms to their own will. They 'queer' old media and reverse expectations. With a performance by Simic,  visual art by Yuqi Wang and a screening of ‘Oh Loneliness’, a drag opera video by Lena Meyskens, with introduction. Of course we end the day with a drink and a dance.

We are back with our annual party during the Dutch Design Week! For this edition, we have invited the darlings of Cruise Control to make it a banging party!

This time we'll host our party at the lovely POPEI in Strijp-S.
The doors will open at 22:00 and we'll party in the late ours until 04:00!
There is a limited number of tickets available, so don't wait too long!

DayDayGay can not be missed during the DDW. At our home base, Plug In City we ‘ll open the doors on Saturday 21 October for the first edition of 'Cocktales'! Cocktales is an art event and stage. You can come and take a look during the DDW and be immersed in a cocktail of people, stories and worlds, in artists who show their world and story. There is an exhibition with an installation by Sarjon and live screen printing. There are performances in the evening. Of course we end the day with a drink and a dance.

The daydaygays were invited to crash Nijmegen's famous queer paty "Vreemd" in Nijmegen. And boy o boy did we do so! We showed them how strange Eindhoven can be.

Out first collab. Vegan Heroes en daydaygay; a good combo of delicious food and delicious queens. Add bingo into the mix and you have a perfect night!
